North Carolina’s Elon University has become increasingly popular over the past several years, but now interest has taken a steep climb: As the November 1 deadline for Early Action and Early Decision approaches, I’ve heard first-hand from their Admissions folks that applications are up a whopping 102% over this date last year. Whether this is primarily due to their moving onto the Common and Coalition Application platforms this year, or whether it’s their model of hands-on, engaged, experiential learning that is pushing the trend is uncertain. But one thing is clear—their 66% admit rate is going to be cut in half if students continue to submit applications at the rate they are presently hitting the Send button.
